Abstract: In Côte d'Ivoire, to combat community malnutrition, the country has opted for the Learning and Nutritional Rehabilitation Center (FARN). Before establishing these centers, a pilot phase was initiated in the Korhogo Health District. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of this intervention in the community. This was a retrospective and prospective cross-sectional study that targeted children aged 6 to 59 months and their mothers. The variables studied were the prevalence of acute malnutrition, the nutritional status of discharged children cared in the community, and the change in mothers' behavior. The results show a significant reduction in the prevalence of malnutrition among 6- to 59-month-old children from 9.7% to 6.2%, a cure rate of 89.1% for children discharged and a consolidation rate of a good nutritional status at 85.4% at 3 months in these same children. Among mothers benefiting from FARN, there was a change in behavior favorable to good nutritional practices compared to non-beneficiary mothers. In view of these results, FARNs prove to be an effective approach to fighting malnutrition in Côte d'Ivoire. Extending this approach to the entire national territory is therefore essential.

Abstract: The objective of this study was to assess the potential of Biofield Energy Treated vitamin D3 and DMEM medium on bone health. The test items, were divided into two parts. One part of each sample received the Consciousness Energy Healing Treatment by Bonnie Patrice Hegarty-Diaz and those samples were labeled as the Biofield Energy Treated (BT) samples, while the other parts of each sample were denoted as the untreated test items (UT). Various parameters were performed to evaluate bone strength and integrity such as ALP, collagen, and bone mineralization in human bone osteosarcoma cells (MG-63). The test samples were found as safe in the tested concentrations by MTT assay. ALP was significantly increased by 50.77% and 50.27% in the BT-DMEM + UT-Test item and BT-DMEM + BT-Test item, respectively at 10 µg/mL compared to the UT-DMEM + UT-Test item group. Further, the ALP level was significantly elevated by 137.29% and 88.08% and 107.93% in the UT-DMEM + BT-Test item, BT-DMEM + UT-Test item, and BT-DMEM + BT-Test item groups, respectively at 50 µg/mL compared to the UT-DMEM + UT-Test item group. Collagen was significantly increased by 39.44%, 39.44%, and 49.66% in the UT-DMEM + BT-Test item, BT-DMEM + UT-Test item, and BT-DMEM + BT-Test item groups, respectively at 50 µg/mL compared to the untreated group. Further, the collagen level was significantly increased by 11.35%, 29.91%, and 46.41% in the UT-DMEM + BT-Test item, BT-DMEM + UT-Test item and BT-DMEM + BT-Test item, respectively at 100 µg/mL compared to the untreated group. Additionally, the percent of bone mineralization was distinctly increased by 13.51% and 47.21% in the UT-DMEM + BT-Test item and BT-DMEM + UT-Test item groups, respectively at 10 µg/mL compared to the untreated group. The percent of bone mineralization was distinctly increased by 11.51%, 109.53%, and 83.73% in the UT-DMEM + BT-Test item, BT-DMEM + UT-Test item, and BT-DMEM + BT-Test item groups, respectively at 100 µg/mL, compared to the UT-DMEM + UT-Test item group. Overall, the Biofield Energy Treated vitamin D3 was significantly improved the bone health parameters and it could be a powerful alternative nutraceutical supplement to combat vitamin D3 deficiency and fight against various bone related problems including rickets, osteomalacia, osteoporosis, osteogenesis imperfecta, Paget’s disease of bone, bone and joint pain, low bone density, bone fractures, deformed bones, osteoma, chondrodystrophia fetalis, stress management and prevention, autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, and anti-aging by improving overall health.

Abstract: Introduction: World Health Organization (WHO) defines adolescent as person between 10 and 19 years of age. Adolescents’ sexual behavior threatens the physical, psychological and social health and wellbeing of this group and takes their life. Objective: So, the aim of this study was to assess in school adolescents’ Risky sexual practice and associated factors in Nekemte Town. Methodology: School based cross sectional survey was carried out on 576 students in March 2015 involving quantitative and qualitative method. The qualitative part involved 12 focus group discussions. The data was collected using pre-tested self-administered questioners and analyzed using SPSS V.20. Multi-variate logistic regression was used to see association between independent and outcome variables. Result: 568 of respondents completed the questioners, making the response rate (98.6%). 105 (18.5%) of study subjects were sexually active and among them 59 (59.6%) and 25 (28.7%) have not used condom on their first sexual encounter and never used condom at any time of their sexual episode, respectively. Considerable proportion of sexually active students had more than one sexual partner 50 (50.5%). Over all 95 (16.5%) of respondents have been engaged in risky sexual practice. Being male (AOR (95% CI) of 5.73 (2.33, 14.08), Perceived poor academic performance (AOR (95% CI) of 17.59 (3.61, 85.55)), pornographic watch (AOR (95% CI) of 3.31 (1.79, 6.14)) and perceived moderate to high HIV risk perception (AOR (95% CI) of 5.89 (2.43, 14.27)) were positively associated with risk sexual practice. Conclusion and Recommendation: School adolescent have risk taking behaviors. Students get information about HIV/AIDS from their school mini media and some voluntary HIV positive person in an occasional and limited way. So that, it is recommended that adolescent should be equipped with comprehensive sexual education, including condom use and understand the consequence of their sexual practice.

Abstract: The study was carried out in red sea state during the period from November 2013 to March 2014 to investigate the Enterobacteriaceae from patients suffering from community-acquired urinary tract infections and then do sensitivity test for each of isolates. In this study out of 100 specimens 52 Enterobacteriaceae species were isolated from different clinics and hospitals in Port Sudan city. The specimens werecultured on CLED media ( cystinelactose electrolyte deficiency). identification was done by gram's stain and convential biochemical reactions. Then the anti–microbial sensitivity tests were done as the follows: (Ampicillin-Sulbactam "AS", Co. trimoxazole "BA", Ceftizoxime "CI", Chloramphenicol "CH", Cephalaxin "PR", Tetracycline "TE", Ciprofloxacin "CP", Amikacin "AK", Sparfloxacin "SC", Gatifloxacin "GF", Norflaxcin "NX) by Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method. The study revealed that the most part of strains are sensitive to Chloramphenicol andAmikacin and resistant to Ampicillin –Sulpactam (AS). The identified Enterobacteriaceae were as follows; Escherichia coli 34 (65%), Klebsiella pneumonia 10 (19%), Klebsiella oxytoca 3(6%), Salmonella Para A 3 (6%), proteus mirabilis 1 (2%), Citrobacter 1 (2%).

Abstract: Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life is a natural, cost effective and feasible intervention that promotes child survival. Exclusive breastfeeding has been promoted severally but its practice has remained poor in Nigeria. This study aims to determine the knowledge and practice of exclusive breastfeeding among mothers who bring their children to the department of Paediatrics University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital. This was a descriptive cross-sectional hospital based study carried out from January 2012 to December 2013. A total of three hundred mothers presenting with their children for treatment at the Department of Paediatrics outpatient clinics, emergency and children medical wards were consecutively recruited into the study. Data on demographics, marital status, socioeconomic characteristics, knowledge and practice of breastfeeding were obtained using a structured self-administered questionnaire. The respondents were aged between 18 and 55years with a mean age of 31.59+6.6years. Most of the women were between 26-35years, majority (39%) were aged 25-30years and majority(89.3%) were married. Thirteen percent had no formal education while majority (63.8%) had tertiary education. Ninety eight percent of the respondents had heard about EBF. Knowledge of the correct meaning of EBF was 91.3% while awareness of the benefits of EBF was 69.3%. Thirty five (11.7%) practiced EBF for the first 6months. More than half (57.7%) of the respondents initiated breastfeeding within 1hour of delivery while 24.7% did so after 1hour but within 24hours of delivery. One hundred and twenty seven (42.3%) of the mothers had given prelacteal feeds to their babies. Of those who gave prelacteal feeds, 8.6% gave plain water, 6.3% glucose water, and 0.3% infant formula and herbs. In conclusion, the practice of exclusive breastfeeding in this study is very low and therefore there is an urgent need to scale up programmes that will promote exclusive breastfeeding in our region.
